High in the ragged lands of the Boralis region of Rivenspire, in the crags west of Northpoint, resides the Blackmere - The ancestral seat of House Rivière, a name that begs not to be forgotten to time with its dying breaths. Lord Rivière was an imposter, a Niben politician who married the rich Lady Analise Rivière, stealing her name and lineage just to lose them both in Ranser's War. The Lord and his only daughter, Lady Theodosia Rivière, are the last of the Rivière line, though she oft goes unspoken of in the circles of nobility.Understandably, few care to remember the details of destitute Breton nobility - It is a very common sob story, these days. Rather, her praise is sang in circles shared by artists. Lady Theo, with hands stained by paint, has captured the likeness of High Rock's most prolific names in exquisite detail upon the canvas. Her skill with the brush and chisel is unmatched, and nearly enough to excuse her 'off-putting' personality. Not one for many friends, Theo is a woman of solitary tendencies - Pleasant to converse with for a limited amount of time, but moody, cruel, and sour when pushed past her limits. She is an ugly creature beneath the mask of noble posturing, like most nobles are, one so convinced she's been spurned that she simply cannot fathom that she may have spurned others, too. Having so much taken from her, it is only her right to take from the world, too; whatever she wants by whatever means, using whatever justification for however dark those means may get.

common
† Expert Artistry - The only thing Theo's name is truly known for in the public eye, naturally, is that of her work. She's a talented artist in mediums of painting and sculpting, peddling portraits and busts of those prolific enough to want a piece of themselves.
→ a general merchant hook - want your character painted? Theo can do it in-character.† Friends in High Places - Though technically nobility herself, Theo is more often considered an ornament in noble courts. She's well connected, even if her personality would suggest otherwise, and can often reluctantly be found attending galas and socializing with the "high born".
→ for soirees, galas, balls. potentially political scheming stuff, or just a fun reason to be around rich people.† Scholarly Pursuits - Ever in pursuit of greatness through art, Theo maintains healthy connections with those in scholarly fields - The Mages Guild, the Antiquitarians Circle, and rogue scholarly orders for all sorts of different subjects. She takes an interest in anatomy and the science of the mortal form, if only to further her artistic understanding of the flesh.
→ research rp totally not for the purpose of making a flesh monster. tee hee.† Devout Worshipper - If only for the sake of saving face in light of certain rumors about herself and her family, Theo maintains an active faith in the Divines - Primarily Dibella, patron of the arts. When not painting for noble patrons, she can be found in temples, teaching a few students of her own.
→ the occasional apprenticeship or otherwise religious rp - mostly for funny shenanigans because this bitch is most definitely not a woman of god.
rare
† The Ever-Youthful Visage - Though Theo's artistic work is good, there's most certainly a better reason why she's highly sought after. The stray rumor has attached itself to her name of her paintings causing her patron lords and ladies to maintain ageless appearances - Her depictions done so perfectly that her subjects begin to look more like the art than themselves. Imperfections fade away, the passage of time ceases, and Theo is incredibly well compensated.
→ "picture of dorian gray" vibes, here - necromancy, dark magic, flesh scultping abound. prior discussion required for this hook.† The Haunting of Rivière Manor - Ranser's War left a scar on High Rock and Breton society. Other families spat upon those who chose to fight, House Rivière being one of them. After losing his sons, the patriarch of the house, Castor Rivière, reportedly went mad. He remains in their manor in the valley in Rivenspire still, rambling and raving alone.
→ dirty family secrets and rumors available to be hot goss, or another reason to hate yet another poor noble house. prior discussion required for this hook as well.

common
"Lord Rivière was a fool, suckling on Ranser's cock through his little rebellion. Lost both of his sons showing his support that was worth so little! He deserved what was coming for him. A thousand apologies King Emeric, paid by his weight in gold."
Northpoint, circa 2E 574"Miss Rivière! We're so pleased she chose to depart that dreadful manor of her father and take on such an ambitious project with us. Her hands capture the little intricacies of the mortal body into marble in ways that are truly astounding."
Skingrad, circa 2E 592"First Lady Analise marries a man far below her station, then she allows that backwater Niben to bring a witch-man into their home? I know his kind are... 'friendly' with theirs, but for the Lady of the house to cozy up so readily with them? How absolutely shameless."
Wayrest, circa 2E 560"Lady Theo? Ugh. Last I heard, she barely had any real coin to her name - Father's money ran out, treacherous bastard. Anything she does, she does to try and pin some respect to her family. Let them die out, I say."
Evermore, circa 2E 592

"Look; it's one of those things everyone does, but no one goes around boasting about doing it, okay? It keeps the wrinkles from creeping any further and the tits from sagging... Just a useful tool for those of us with the coin for it."
Leyawiin, circa 2E 589
"Strangest thing I've ever done, truly. We met in the dead of night in pure darkness and for some reason she felt the need to blindfold me, too. She instructed me to lay upon some cool stone and just... Breathe. I felt like a corpse readying to spend the rest of my days in some mausoleum, but the next thing I knew, I woke and my skin was smooth as marble, and somehow even more flawless than the sculpture she'd made of me."
Daggerfall, circa 2E 591

Lord Castor Rivière
father
I bear not only your sins, father, but the very same darkness that drove you to your damp solitude in the shell of our home. I fear I am to end up the same way, with my mind not my own and only my name to clutch onto before that inevitably slips away, too.

The day I lost you, I lost a part of myself I fear I may never recover. You kept father's sickness at bay and in his absence, I flourished. I hope we'll find one another again - Whether it be on Nirn, in the next life, the Void, or wherever it is Witch-men go.
Cleon and Nikasios Rivière

You were both always good to me. I know you felt it, too - That lingering fear after watching our father slowly slip into his bouts of madness. I suppose you're lucky death took you before it got worse.
